Artist's Comments

Giant spireback mites roped in as caravan creatures over traditional mules or camels by a bunch of crazy far-flung traders.

Usually found buried in sand during the blazing sun of day, with their telltale spikes sticking out of the ground as temp gauges, they're tamed to wander during day by the accompanying shade of an overhead goods carpet.

While tougher and easier to manage than mammals, they're harder to train and unless properly penned in, are prone to wandering off. The promise of water and food is often sufficient to keep them around.
